What was announced
South Korea's Ministry of Trade, Industry and Resources announced the 16th round of follow-up negotiations on services and investment under the Korea–China Free Trade Agreement. The meeting was scheduled for August 31 through September 4, 2026, in Beijing. The Korean and Chinese delegations were led by Kwon Hye-jin and Chen Chao, respectively, with about 30 participants in total.
Why the talks matter
The Korea–China FTA entered into force in 2015. The two countries subsequently began negotiations on services and investment in March 2018. This round was intended to continue discussions on market access and the terms under which service providers and investors could operate across the two markets.
The announcement reflects an effort to make the rules for cross-border business clearer and more predictable. It does not, by itself, mean that new market-opening commitments have been agreed or taken effect.
